1. What is a Health Trainer?
Health Trainers are local people who have been specially trained to offer free practical support to people in their community who want to start making healthier lifestyle choices. Examples of areas that Health Trainers can help you with include:
Over six one-to-one sessions, a Health Trainer will work with you to develop a Personal Health Plan (PHP) which you create to identify those areas of health you want to improve and the actions you can take to achieve your goals.
Health Trainers also provide you with relevant information, practical advice and motivation; as well as signposting you to other appropriate local services that can offer additional help and support.
2. How much do Health Trainers cost?
Our Health Trainers are completely free for people living in Kensington and Chelsea who are over 18 years old. The service is fully funded by Public Health departments of the three boroughs as part of their efforts to address health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing for all who live in the area.
3. Who is eligible to use a Health Trainer?
Anyone over 18 years old who lives in Kensington and Chelsea can use this Health Trainer Service. If you would like a Health Trainer but do not live in one of the three boroughs then contact your local council as they will be able to tell you how to contact a Health Trainer in your borough.
4. How can I get a Health Trainer?
Health Trainers are based in venues across Kensington and Chelsea such as GP surgeries, health centres, community halls. To book an appointment with a Health Trainer all you need to do is call: 020 7099 3333 or complete the form on the Book Now page of this website and someone will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
5. Where and when can I see my Health Trainer?
All one-to-one sessions take place in a convenient location such as a local community centre, cafe, GP surgery or NHS walk-in centre. Times and venues are agreed between you and your Health Trainer.
6. How long will I see a Health Trainer for?
Our Health Trainers see their clients for up to six sessions over approximately 3 months. The first session generally lasts an hour and follow-up sessions are approximately 30 minutes each. The final session normally lasts 45 minutes.
7. How will a Health Trainer support me to become healthier?
Our Health Trainers can help you identify the changes you could make that would improve your health and then support you in setting and achieving your Personal Health Plan (PHP). For example, if you want to give up smoking, a Health Trainer will offer you practical support to achieve this goal including signposting you to local help groups, giving you useful tips as to how to keep on track and motivational ideas to help you succeed. Health Trainers will also signpost you to other local services that offer additional help and support.
8. What are Wellbeing Workshops?
Our Wellbeing Workshops provide monthly peer support for those people who have successfully completed their Personal Health Plan (PHP) with a Health Trainer and would like additional help to maintain their achievements.
